The passing away of Soumitra Chatterjee has indeed left a big void in the Indian cinema. The thespian who was suffering from ill health since last month, has given the Bengali cinema several notable performances. All his co-stars mourned his death and expressed their grief.
Amitabh Bachchan too took to his blog and shared a couple of lines about the Bengali veteran. He shared a lovely picture with Soumitra Chatterjee and started his blog saying, ‘One by one they are all leaving us .. Soumitra Chatterjee .. a prolific giant and icon .. a legend of the Bengal Film Industry .. passes away .. just prayers for the departed soul and an helplessness .. met him last at the IFFI at Kolkata .. a gentle human , humble and filled with grace ..” Big B further writes about the shock he received with the veteran’s passing away, “And one wonders what else can one ever script now after this sad news .. each day brings a setback .. one gets up in the morning to live another day, to work and to exist .. I suppose that is all the very best one can think of ..”
Soumitra Chatterjee took his last breath at a hospital in Kolkata. He was 85 years old and has been fighting COVID-19 since last month. Following his recovery from the virus, several other health complications followed and the actor’s health had remained critical ever since.
