‘I have always had to stand up for myself with my body image in the public eye, and I love that you have always done that [as well]. You’re so body-positive’, the singer told the tennis champion.
In response, Williams gushed over Clarkson as well, praising her for often clapping back at body-shamers in the best of ways.
‘I love that you have always done that. It is so cool. One time, I remember you went off on someone. I loved you for it,’ Williams told the other woman.
Clarkson wondered if she was talking about the ‘British chick,’ referring to something that happened a few years back (2015) when a U.K. TV personality mockingly wondered if the star had eaten ‘all of her backing singers!’ Yikes!
Later on, Kelly talked about the incident with Heat magazine, saying that ‘She does not know me. I’m awesome! It does not bother me.’
Clarkson told Williams that her mindset at the time was that she had no time for ‘you over the pond’ since she had more than enough people hating her in her own country to begin with!
In other words, she just couldn’t concern herself with even more body shaming, coming from international sources.
The singer also explained why she talks about such matters publicly every chance she gets.
Aside from body shaming being rude, of course, what really bothers her is that ‘Other women and little girls are looking out there and they are bigger than me and they’re going, ‘If they think she’s this way, then what does the world think of me?”
Clarkson mentioned how much this kind of words on social media can affect the psyche of women and little girls out there and how much it can crush their feelings of self-worth.
For that reason, she vowed to never stop speaking up about body shaming every time she encounters it!
