Yesterday the Indian film industry saw another big loss as Soumitra Chatterjee left us for heavenly abode. The thespian has given some innumerable performances for Bengali cinema and continued to entertain and surprise his fans even at the age of 85 with his roles. The actor took his last breath in Kolkata’s hospital yesterday after being treated for COVID-19 for the last few weeks.
Rituparna Sengupta who was fortunate to work with Soumitra Chatterjee spoke to a leading daily and shared her thoughts on this big loss, “His legacy must be celebrated because he gave his all to the film industry. While we will mourn his death, we will celebrate (his life),” said the actress. She further spoke of the actor and his great love for Bengali cinema, “His world revolved around the Bengali culture, and he would read, write, and perform (plays) in the language. Soumitra Chatterjee has been The Dadasaheb Phalke recipient and his fans loved to rewatch his classic films and he was indeed an institution when it came to acting. May his soul rest in peace.
