A special court under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has ruled that the charge of financing illicit trafficking or trading of drugs does not apply against Showik Chakraborty.
Showik, along with Rhea Chakraborty, was arrested when the NCB got involved in the investigation relating to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Showik was kept in jail for three months. While Showik’s sister Rhea was granted bail on October 7, Showik remained in custody. Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had invoked Section 27A of NDPS Act against Showik and Rhea Chakraborty. When proven guilty of the act, the accused generally faces 10-20 years of rigorous imprisonment. Now, the Special court judge GB Gurao in his order stated that “ingredients of section 27A of NDPS Act are absent in the case.”
