After almost eight months of lockdown, the theatre owners and exhibitors can heave a sigh of relief. The Maharashtra government has finally allowed the theatres to be reopened from today. According to reports in Mumbai Mirror, the theatres will open to 50 per cent occupancy and no outside eatables will be allowed in cinema halls. One of the first films that will be released on the big screen is Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari. The makers had released the trailer but never let out their release date as they were waiting for theatres to reopen. This Manoj Bajpayee, Diljit Dosanjh, Fatima Sana Shaikh film will release on November 13th and will be the first film to release in theatres post lockdown.
Several trade analysts confirm that now several small and mid-sized films will release in theatres till the year ends and though the profits won’t be great, it will be a great relief for the makers as there will be digital and satellite earnings and also the monies that the footfalls will bring in. Big releases like Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer and will wait to see how these small releases fare and later announce their release dates.
Looks like Diwali is no more black-Diwali for theatre owners as film lovers will slowly and gradually flock to single screens and multiplexes with proper safety, as they have been stepping out in other public places. Several other filmmakers are set to re-release their films and some are still in negotiations to release their movies which already had direct-to-digital streaming.
