Real-life groups will occasionally rotate and replace their members, but it’s nearly impossible to pretend that multiple people are the same person. (Not without some creative miming, anyway.) Fictional groups like Gorillaz have long experimented with the idea, though, because it allows them to seamlessly move between genres — often without their younger fans realizing that a change has occurred behind the scenes.
